A skin is a strip of directional fibre that grips going up and slides going down, and it is the only product on this site that has to be cut to the ski it will live on. That is why the corpus lists them by two numbers — 110/160, 125/190, 125/161–171 — the first the width in millimetres, the second the ski length, and why the good listings include a trimming tool and say so. Buying a skin without knowing the waist of the ski is buying a strip to be returned. The fibre is the first real choice: mohair glides better and wears faster, nylon grips harder and lasts, and the mixes that dominate this shelf are sold precisely as the compromise. The attachment is the second: a tip loop is universal, a tail clip has to match the ski's notch, and the systems that need neither — the self-adhesive backings the corpus shows under one brand name — are a different product that trades absolute grip for simplicity. The adhesive is what the shelf argues about. Traditional glue is reliable, renewable with an iron, and hates dirt and repeated folding; the newer tacky backings peel apart more easily in the cold and do not transfer glue to the base. Both fail in the same way — a skin that lets go mid-climb — and both are restored rather than replaced. Prices run from 125 € to 197 €.
