An edge tool holds a file at a fixed angle against the steel edge of a ski, and the angle is the whole point of the object. The corpus prints the numbers: side bevels of 87, 88, 89 and 90 degrees, base bevels from 0.5 to 1.5 degrees. A sharper side angle bites harder on ice and dulls faster; a base bevel decides how the ski feels when it is flat. Then the ordinary mechanics: whether the guide clamps the file or relies on a screw, whether the body is aluminium or plastic, and whether it can be held with cold hands.
